Whether you work in a veterinary practice, a pet shop, or simply love the pet you care for, the Pet Nutrition Diploma can help you ensure your pet, or your clients’ pets, are fed the right diet for their unique needs.
This course is broken down into manageable modules you can study online at your own pace, from any device. On completion, you’ll take a multiple-choice test (with a second attempt if needed) before receiving your industry-recognised certificate, which can be downloaded, printed or posted for a small additional cost.
What you will learn:
- Different food types, pet diets and how to read pet food labels.
- The importance of nutrition for pets, and how the digestive system differs between herbivores, omnivores and carnivores.
- How the right nutrition can help with disease prevention.
- How dietary needs change across feeding stages, from puppies and kittens to seniors, and during pregnancy or lactation.
- What counts as a healthy weight for a pet, and common weight issues pets may experience.
- Why a pet may be under- or overeating.
- Everything you need to know about pet food, snacks, treats, herbs and essential oils, and which foods to avoid.
- Specific sources of nutrition for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats, fish, birds and reptiles.
- Why keeping a food diary is important.
This course is part of our Animal Care courses, and pairs well with our related Health & Fitness training.
