Anyone who owns a pet or works with animals will benefit from a pet first aid certificate. Knowing what to do when a pet is injured or ill is a valuable chance to help save a family pet and make a real difference.
This course is broken down into manageable modules and is hosted online, so you can study anywhere with an internet connection, whether at home after work or on your lunch break. On completion, you’ll complete a multiple-choice test (with two attempts to pass) before receiving your certificate, which can be downloaded, printed and verified online.
What you will learn:
- The importance of veterinary services and general pet health.
- How to register with your local vet and the anatomy of a dog.
- The causes of limping in dogs and how to examine pets at home.
- Pet digestion, checking vital signs, and recognising dehydration.
- How to examine wounds and stop bleeding effectively.
- How to treat burns and a choking pet.
- What to do if a pet goes into shock, and basic CPR for pets.
- How to approach an injured animal and safe restraint techniques.
- The signs of frostbite, and first aid for drowning and near-drowning.
- Household hazards, poisoning and treatments, and home care for vomiting and diarrhoea.
