SIA Door Supervisor Refresher Course in Luton
If your SIA door supervisor licence is coming up for renewal, you must complete refresher (top-up) training before the SIA will renew it. This course delivers that training in two or three days at our Luton centre, and covers the physical intervention refresher along with the legal and operational updates you need.
The course fee is £215. Training takes place at 33 Park Street West, Luton, LU1 3BE, a short walk from Luton town centre and Luton railway station.

Who needs this course
- Door supervisors whose front line SIA licence is due to expire and who need top-up training to renew it.
- Licence holders who want to get their refresher done early rather than rushing it near the expiry date.
- People whose door supervisor licence has recently lapsed and who want to get back to work.
- Employers who need to keep a team of licensed door supervisors current.
If you have never held a door supervisor licence, this is not the right course for you. You need the full SIA Door Supervisor Course instead.

Skills Pad is a training provider. We are not the Security Industry Authority. Completing your refresher is a requirement for renewal, but the SIA decides every licence application itself after its own checks.

Book your refresher in good time. Leaving it until the last few weeks before your licence expires risks a gap where you cannot legally work. Training runs from 9.30am to 4pm on each training day. Your joining instructions confirm what to bring and how to find us once you have booked.
What it costs
The course fee is £215.

What you need before you book
A current or recently expired door supervisor licence
This course is for people who already hold, or have recently held, a front line SIA door supervisor licence. If you are not sure whether you still qualify for refresher training rather than the full course, call us on 01582 958844 before booking and we will check your situation with you.
Photographic identification
Bring original photographic ID on the first day. A valid passport, UK photocard driving licence, biometric residence permit or EEA national identity card is usually acceptable. We cannot register you with the awarding body without it.
A valid first aid certificate
You will need a current Emergency First Aid at Work, First Aid at Work or equivalent certificate. If yours has lapsed, add our one day EFAW course for £95 when you book.
Suitable clothing
The physical intervention element is practical. Wear comfortable clothing and flat, closed footwear, and tell your tutor beforehand about any injury or medical condition that could affect your ability to take part.
What the refresher covers
- Physical intervention refresher – lawful, reasonable and proportionate use of force, disengagement and low level restrictive skills, escorting techniques, and the risks associated with restraint.
- Legislation updates – changes to licensing law and the legal framework since you last trained.
- Conflict management – recognising escalation, de-escalation and assertive communication under pressure.
- Terror threat awareness – recognising suspicious behaviour, responding to an incident and working with the emergency services.
- Safeguarding and vulnerability – identifying customers at risk, drink spiking awareness and appropriate action.
- Searching, ejections and incident reporting – current best practice and accurate record keeping.
How you are assessed
Assessment is by multiple choice examination and by practical demonstration of the physical intervention skills. Your tutor prepares you for both during the course. If you do not pass first time you can re-sit; a re-sit fee applies and we will tell you the cost and the next available date.
Renewing your SIA licence
Once Highfield has issued your refresher certificate you can apply to the Security Industry Authority to renew your front line door supervisor licence. Skills Pad can handle the application for you for £250, which includes our administration fee, or you can apply directly to the SIA yourself. See our SIA licence badge application page for more.
Completing the refresher does not guarantee renewal. The SIA reviews every application, including a fresh criminal record check.
If your licence has already expired
You cannot work in a licensed role while your licence is expired. Depending on how long ago it lapsed, you may still be able to renew using refresher training, or you may need to complete the full door supervisor qualification again. Ring us with your licence number and expiry date and we will tell you honestly which route applies to you before you spend any money.

- By bus: Luton Interchange and town centre stops are a short walk away.
- By car: town centre car parks are nearby. There is no on-site parking.
Licence holders travel to us from Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Bedford, Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage, St Albans, Watford and north London.
