Educational psychology is the study of how individuals learn. Once focused primarily on the development of children from infancy through to adolescence, the discipline has expanded to also include the adult learning process, and this course guides you through all of the relevant concepts.
The field of educational psychology examines how humans learn and store knowledge, especially in educational settings, taking into account the emotional, social and cognitive factors involved. Although educational psychologists can draw on a wide variety of theoretical perspectives, five are commonly relied upon: the behavioural, developmental, cognitive, social cognitive and constructivist perspectives.
This course introduces the relevant facts and details connected with the field, helping you apply the discipline to typical scenarios in the modern world and understand why such professionals are increasingly called for in the workplace and in educational settings.
What you will learn:
- An overview of educational psychology and its history, including key figures who contributed to the field
- Behavioural, cognitive and developmental psychology, and the five perspectives most associated with educational psychology
- Schema Theory, the theories of Sigmund Freud and Jean Piaget, and the nature versus nurture debate
- Constructivism, motivation, and the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
- Dyslexia, ADHD and other learning difficulties an educational psychologist is likely to encounter
- How to apply educational psychology to teaching, plus typical working scenarios, technology, resources, opportunities and careers in the field
