Struggling with basic maths is common — close to 40% of the UK population reportedly struggle with basic concepts like fractions and ratios. While you may not have to take maths tests often as an adult, lacking skills in this area can make everyday tasks more complicated. For example, a solid understanding of how ratios and proportions work can make mental maths much easier, and developing your maths skills has real-world, immediate benefits.
This Basic Maths course gives you an overview of several core skills. It begins with BODMAS, using a practical example to follow along, then reviews fractions, including a discussion of mixed numbers, before finishing with ratios and proportions. By the end of the course, you should be confident enough with these basic maths skills to tackle more complex work.
You will learn:
- Several key terms used to describe maths operations
- The proper order of operations when tackling a complex mathematical equation
- The difference between a numerator and a denominator, and how to differentiate a proper fraction from an improper one
- The difference between a ratio and a proportion, and how to express each mathematically
- How to use proportions to solve mathematical equations
This is a 1-module course with around 0.75 hours of learning. It forms part of our business and CPD courses ranges.
