This easy-to-follow, 10-module course is designed to help staff with a very basic understanding of how to operate a computer and the internet, to advance their knowledge and master these tools.
The course gives learners an understanding of how to use a computer to simplify their life and advance their career. They will learn how to use the internet to research, use social media, manage emails, retrieve information and stay safe while doing so.
The course is entirely online, so learners can study anywhere and at any time, as long as they have an internet connection, and access is available across all internet-enabled devices. It generally takes around 15 hours to complete, though this varies from person to person.
The course covers:
- The basic components and how to operate a computer
- What software is needed to enable a computer to function
- The tools available to correct errors, locate files, undo and redo actions, or copy and paste
- Keyboard shortcuts and how to use them to simplify your experience
- The fundamentals of the internet, including how it works and how to find and activate a service provider
- How to use basic internet functions and tools, and how to locate and navigate websites
- How to navigate email, including advanced features
- Familiarisation with social media, including creating an account, uploading photos and connecting with people professionally
- The importance of internet safety and how to create a strong password to safeguard your accounts
